Long ago Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built a breath taking resting place for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. That place was the Taj Mahal, where Mumtaz's tomb was laid. It's a beautiful story that makes the Taj Mahal a great symbol for love, and who doesn't love love? Before sharing what makes the Taj Mahal so special, the editorial board tells of the problem the monument has been causing lately. While on Indian land, the Taj Mahal has Islamic roots. This has caused the Indians to practically disown the mausoleum, cutting its funds and omitting it from its monument brochure. The editorial was written in response to the recent occurrences related to the Taj Mahal. Words like 'pre-eminent', 'abomination', 'intricately inlaid', 'zealotry', and 'syncretic' establish a formal, almost indignant tone. The language conveys a sense of attachment to the monument, and is clearly biased against those damaging it. Throughout the editorial, the authors intertwine fact with emotion using these loaded words, meaningful quotes, and past and present stories. This well rounds the piece with emotional aspects such as "a magnificent symbol of enduring love", historical aspects such as "the 16th century Babri Masjid mosque", and credible factors such as "Sangeet Som... railed that the Taj Mahal was...."
All of these aspects work together to convey the purpose of the thought provoking editorial: to shed light on the unethical and unneeded hatred created in part by a building as magnificent as the Taj Mahal. The argument was successful as the logical, emotional, and credible pieces came together nicely.
